The 'Ceks Model
A close friend mentioned having a custom guitar built for him to play in his goofy instrumental band, The 'Ceks, and, because of his great love of sixties surf and instrumental bands (notably The Ventures), we drew up the plans for this beast.
The 'Ceks Model consists of a poplar body, 70-year-old maple neck, and lightly flamed maple fretboard. Fitted with dual high-output humbuckers, a three-position toggle and a single volume, the wiring is a simplified take on a traditional design.
The 'Ceks Model was originally going to be black with red pearloid binding. After the binding was attached, Will decided that he'd rather have a hot rod red finish on the guitar--effectively covering the red binding. And not long after being sprayed red, Will again changed his mind and decided to go with a metallic blue (with hints of metallic green) with a nitro clearcoat.
Though the red pearloid binding is hidden beneath the finish, it will be visible with time and wear, and should contrast nicely with the blue finish.
